'Last Exorcism' Tops Friday Box Office

'Takers' with T.I. and Chris Brown nabs second place.By Mawuse Ziegbe

The Box-Office Top Five
#1 "The Last Exorcism" ($9.4 million)
#2 "Takers" ($7.5 million)
#3 "The Expendables" ($2.7 million)
#4 "Eat Pray Love" ($ 2.2 million)
#5 "The Other Guys" ($1.9 million)
"The Last Exorcism" scared up major ticket sales on its opening day. The supernatural horror flick raked in an estimated $9.4 million on Friday. "Exorcism," which is directed by Daniel Stamm and boasts gore-master Eli Roth of the "Hostel" series fame as a producer, drew enough moviegoers to grab the top spot. The film, which follows a documentary crew in rural Louisiana hired to capture the creepy antics of a supposedly possessed young girl, goes light on digital wizardry in favor of scoring scares with practical effects.
In the second place slot is the star-studded heist flick "Takers." T.I., Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen and Matt Dillon work the screen in a story about a crew of suave thieves set to carry out a major job. The thriller snatched $7.5 million in Friday ticket sales.
Sliding to third place is the heavily-armed action fest "The Expendables." The fiery, butt-kicking flick raised $2.7 million on Friday, after ruling the box office for the past two weeks and sitting comfortably at the top spot. Friday's haul edges the total domestic tally of the Sylvester Stallone-helmed enterprise near the $75 million mark.
"Eat Pray Love," featuring marquee vet Julia Roberts, settled into fourth place. The soul-searching movie adapted from the runaway hit memoir of the same name, nabbed $2.2 million in box office receipts on Friday. The loopy cop comedy "The Other Guys" continues to power along, taking in $1.9 million and rounding out Friday's top movies in the fifth-place slot.
Although "Avatar" wears the crown for the highest-grossing film ever, the re-release of the James Cameron adventure, revamped with previously unreleased footage, failed to crack the top ten with only $1.2 million in Friday ticket sales.
Check out everything we've got on "The Last Exorcism" and "Takers."

Britney Spears Will 'Kind Of' Play Herself On 'Glee'

'She sort of wants to do a 'Where's Waldo?'-type thing with 'Where's Britney?' ' creator Ryan Murphy reveals.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Ladies, gentlemen and Gleeks, Ryan Murphy has revealed a few more details about what fans can expect when Britney Spears makes a cameo in an episode of "Glee" dedicated to her and airing next season.

While the show creator wouldn't say exactly what part Spears will have, he did hint that she would be playing some version of herself.
"Well, it's her idea. She sort of wants to do a 'Where's Waldo?'-type thing with 'Where's Britney?' " Murphy told MTV News at the "Eat Pray Love" premiere in New York City on Tuesday night. Spears will "kind of" be playing herself, he added. "Yes, that's all I can say."
With so much anticipation surrounding the upcoming episode, Murphy said the cast is equally pumped to have the pop icon on set. In fact, many of them had long been pushing for a Spears episode.
"You know, I met with Britney Spears years and years and years ago right when '(Hit Me) ... Baby One More Time' came out and I was sort of starting my career, and I've always loved her," he explained. "I think what she's done in turning everything around is remarkable, and the show is just a love letter to her music.
"And the reason we're doing it is because so many of the kids on the show say, 'We grew up with Britney. We want to do Britney,' " Murphy continued. "So I said, 'OK,' but I'm filled with admiration for her."
One Gleek who's particularly excited to get Spears onboard is Heather Morris, who over the weekend at the Teen Choice Awards admitted she couldn't believe Spears might actually show up on set. "That'd be so nerve-racking," she said.
When asked which Britney songs she'd like to perform on the show, Morris said, "I like 'Toxic' the best or the 'Slave' video. It was always her best performance. She's rocking! I don't care what I do."
Would you like to see Britney play herself or another character on "Glee"? Let us know in the comments!

Chris Brown's BET Awards Breakdown Divides Viewers

Some think Brown's Michael Jackson tribute was sincere, while others view it as a sympathy ploy.By Gil Kaufman

Chris Brown performs at the 2010 BET Awards on Sunday

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images

While Chris Brown's onstage breakdown during a Michael Jackson tribute at Sunday night's BET Awards likely left many viewers speechless, MTV News readers had plenty to say about the emotional tribute to the late King of Pop.

Many commenters weighed in on an MTV News story about the performance, during which Brown executed some spot-on Jackson choreography for "Remember the Time" and "Billie Jean" while modeling some of MJ's signature looks. He then cried and was unable to get out the lyrics to the moving "Man in the Mirror."
"He left his heart on that dance floor and when those tears dropped from his face, so did the audience around the world," Music4Ever wrote. "He truly gave that his all and showed Michael that he was his idol."
Kjabbamodern called Brown's performance "amazing" and said he was spot on. "When you watched the awards you truly felt the incredible spirit he had, and when he broke down, it was truly genuine. Anyone that cannot understand that and see his true spirit is seriously NOT human. [Brown] made a mistake. ... I hope people find it in their hearts to forgive this young man."
The performance was one of the most high profile for Brown since the singer pleaded guilty last summer in connection with his attack on former girlfriend Rihanna. Since then, he has struggled to get his career back on track, meeting with disappointing sales for his album, Graffiti, and recently being forced to cancel European dates when the conviction stopped him from obtaining a work visa in the U.K.
Not everyone was convinced of the emotional sincerity of Brown's teary display. "Publicity stunt ... so funny that most of these commenters don't even remember all the backlash MJ had to endure!!" Eddie wrote. "Where was the forgiveness then? So sad that a sick person like Chris can put on a show of 'tears' to a REAL MUSICIAN'S MUSIC to get sympathy. ... His tears were for what he lost, which I pray he will never get back!!!"
Insantity wasn't feeling it either, adding, "I guess you can beat the life out of women, as long as you 'cry' at a tribute show."
Rebel was less harsh about Brown's intentions, writing, "This young man has suffered ENOUGH. Just let him move on and remember that there is not one amongst us who has never made a mistake in their life."
The night included notable performances from Alicia Keys, Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, T.I. and Diddy. But Shai182 said simply, "Chris Brown's performance was hands down the best performance of the night!!! He killed it!!!" And chickhappy23 opined, "MJ would have been proud & we know u'll hold true to your promise Chris."
MTV's readers weren't the only ones torn over the tribute from one of Jackson's most avowed young followers. The Los Angeles Times ran a poll of readers on its site, asking whether they bought Brown's performance. At press time, 39 percent said that "Chris was thinking only of Jackson and was choked up by his death," followed by 21 percent who countered, "Chris was 100% faking a breakdown to get sympathy." The rest of the vote was split between 12 percent who said, "Chris was 50% upset by Jackson's death and 50% over-acting to get sympathy," and 9 percent who thought, "Chris was 100% freaked out that he had a real singing gig again. It had nothing to do with Jackson or faking it."
Was Chris Brown's BET breakdown genuine? Continue the conversation in the comments.

Britney Spears On Working With Lady Gaga: 'Anything's Possible'

From schoolgirl to toxic temptress, Britney Spears has played many characters throughout the years. But the singer took a very different approach for her photo spread in the upcoming issue of the U.K.'s Pop magazine by channeling her inner manga character. In the issue, the pop princess dished about the possibilities of a Lady Gaga collaboration and working with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami for the anime-inspired cover.
Despite Gaga overthrowing Spears as the most-followed celebrity on Twitter, the singer had no hard feelings toward pop's newest sensation. "I'm a big fan of hers," she said when asked about working with Gaga. "Anything's possible!"
A collaboration between the pop stars doesn't seem out of the question, as Gaga's mega-hit "Telephone" duet with Beyoncé was originally offered to Spears.
Donning a white wedding dress and a veil with matching gloves, Spears innocently poses in a field of flowers on the cover. In another photo, the singer trades the dress for a leg-baring getup accessorized with a red backpack.
Spears' manga-style shoot was shot by Todd Cole with art direction from Takashi Murakami, who is often referred to as the "Andy Warhol of Japan." While the spread strays from the singer's typical styling, the pop star enjoyed working with the artist. "I loved working with Takashi," she said. "I especially liked how he took high-end fashion and incorporated it with Japanese manga."
The singer's tour to Japan was what originally piqued her interest in Japanese culture. "We looked at a lot of characters and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what he was looking for," she explained. "I was in Japan on my past promo tour, and I loved it."
Editor in Chief Dasha Zhukova spoke to Style.com about the singer's Japanese treatment: "She's feminine, sassy, strong-willed, determined: all the things a great Pop icon should be. Couple that with some Japanese swimsuits and a Rodarte wedding gown, and I think she is pretty much Pop personified!"
Spears couldn't wait to share her excitement for her photo shoot with fans. The pop star took to Twitter, saying, "I just saw the photos for the first time and they are beautiful. Comes out Sept. 1st. Thanks @TakashiPom -- Britney."
Aside from gracing the cover of Pop magazine, the singer has already filmed a cameo for her "Glee" tribute episode and is working on completing the follow-up to 2008's Circus.

Ke$ha Ready To Face Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga At The VMAs

'It's gonna be hard taking the Biebs down,' the 'Tik Tok' singer tells MTV News about her Best New Artist nom.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi

Ke$ha

Photo: MTV News

Ke$ha will storm this September's Video Music Awards with four nominations — she picked up three for her infectious breakthrough single "Tik Tok," as well as one for "My First Kiss," her duet with 3Oh!3. But the singer isn't quite sure she'll be able to wrest the Best New Artist Moonman from windswept heartthrob Justin Bieber.

"It's gonna be hard taking the Biebs down," she told MTV News. "It's gonna be hard, but my fans — we can do it!"
Justin Bieber isn't Ke$ha's only stiff competition on September 12; the brash singer is also up for Best Female Video against heavy hitters like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. But she hopes that her fans will party all over the ballot box and sweep her to victory.
"I have no idea! Gaga and Beyoncé and Taylor Swift — everybody in there I respect, so it's kind of like I have no disses to throw," she said. "That's a tough category. ['Tik Tok'] was my first video, so that really is exciting. I had no idea what I was doing. It was my first time making a video, so it's really kind of cool. I'm excited to see if I and a chance, but I think we can take them. Can't we? I'm down to try!"
After she found out about the nominations, she tweeted her excitement, saying, "I don't even know what to say. I'm so grateful and thankful and stunned and excited. I can't even put into words actually how much this means to me ... thank you to every single one of my fans ... I'm f---ing losing my sh--. I'm so stoked!!!!!"
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.

'Dancing With The Stars' Season 11 Lineup Revealed

MTV stars Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino and Audrina Patridge are in the mix.By Kara Warner

Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino

Photo: Andrew H. Walker/ Getty Images

It's that time of the year again: ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" casting announcement is here! The rumors have been circulating, guesses made and, finally, the official list is here.
As usual, the new crop of celebrity dancers is a band of merry misfits. But we here at MTV News can't help but smile that two of the newest castmembers are, in a sense, homegrown:

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino
Something tells us this "Jersey Shore" breakout star isn't going to have a problem showing off a little chest on "DWTS." The self-proclaimed guido has already made an impression on reality-TV fans with his one-liners and manscaped abs; now he can put all the time he spent fist-pumping in Seaside Heights nightclubs to good use on the dance floor.
Audrina Patridge
The brunet starlet made her Hollywood debut on MTV's "The Hills" as Heidi and Lauren's aspiring-model neighbor. Patridge has since pursued an acting career, scoring parts in "Sorority Row" and "Into the Blue 2." With "The Hills" signing off this past July, the California girl is ready to show off her fancy footwork on a new reality show.
Brandy
Once known primarily as the spunky and sweet teen singer of "Sittin' Up in My Room" and "I Wanna Be Down" and the star of the sitcom "Moesha," Brandy Norwood is back on television with her brother Ray J in the VH1 reality show "Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business." Norwood was also rumored to be dating rapper Flo Rida in the spring.
Bristol Palin
By now she is no stranger to the spotlight. First thrust into the public eye via her mom's VP candidacy with John McCain in 2008, Bristol Palin was just 17 when it was announced she was pregnant and engaged to her child's father, Levi Johnston. Palin currently juggles the duties of a single mom with public speaking, advocating abstinence to teens. She also appeared as herself on an episode of "The Secret Life of an American Teenager." Her relationship with Johnston has been the epitome of on-again, off-again (they are currently "off").
Jennifer Grey
We can hear the "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" quotes now. Die-hard fans of the beloved "Dirty Dancing" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" actress are likely clamoring to get tickets to see Grey step back into her dancing shoes — surely she'll dance to "Time of My Life" (the classic "Dancing" number), right? In recent years, Grey has appeared on TV and in film, often guest-starring as herself.
David Hasselhoff
Hasselhoff — a.k.a. "The Hoff" — is no stranger to reality television, having just ended his stint as a judge on "America's Got Talent." Hasselhoff first rose to fame on the '80s TV hit "Knight Rider," then as forever-tan lifeguard Mitch Buchannon on "Baywatch." He also enjoyed a brief career as a pop star in Germany, with two #1 hits on the German pop charts. Plus, he knows how to ham it up and take criticism — just check out his "Comedy Central Roast."
Florence Henderson
The spunky 76-year-old is best known for playing the matriarch on "The Brady Show" in the late '60s and early '70s, but she hasn't been a stranger over the past few decades, appearing on "The Surreal Life" in 2006 and even guest-hosting "WWE Monday Night Raw." Hopefully she'll fare a little better than previous AARP-eligible contestants (see: Cloris Leachman, Buzz Aldrin).
Margaret Cho
The racy comedian first made an impression with her 1994 sitcom "All American Girl," which only lasted one season. Since then, she has written several books and found success on the road with her stand-up act. She also scored her own reality show in 2008: VH1's "The Cho Show." Let's see if her entertaining comedy routine can translate into "DWTS" success.
Kurt Warner
One of two former pro athletes in the cast, Warner is a much-loved (for both his work on the football field and off) former NFL quarterback. Warner played 12 seasons for three different teams: the St. Louis Rams (with whom he helped win the Super Bowl and MVP in 2000), New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Warner holds several NFL records, including the three highest single-game passing yardage totals in Super Bowl history.
Michael Bolton
Anyone listening to top 40 radio in the '90s grew to either love or hate Bolton's chart-toppers "When a Man Loves a Woman" and "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You." Combined with his signature (and sultry) tenor voice and his formerly flowing locks, Bolton was a force to be reckoned with. The balladeer has been in the news recently after word got out that he and Lady Gaga were working together on his upcoming album, One World One Love, due in September.
Rick Fox
Many former pro athletes have found success on the show (Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Emmett Smith, etc.), so the addition of the former NBA player — he played for the Celtics and the Lakers — is not too much of a surprise. Fox is also well-known for being Vanessa Williams' ex-husband and a sometimes actor with bit parts in TV and film.
Kyle Massey
Perhaps due to the success and popularity of their last Disney kid, "Hannah Montana" actor Cody Linley, ABC added "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House" star Kyle Massey to the roster. The plucky 19-year-old — who is also a rapper — is the cast's youngest member. Perhaps he'll wow the audience with his dance moves and lyrical stylings.
Are you looking forward to the new season of "Dancing With the Stars"? Let us know in the comments below!

I've lived in New York now for over ten years now and I've ever been to the New York Public Library until today. Mark is in town and wanted to meet someplace where we could work, so I said, "How about the library?" I've always been meaning to go there but never have.
Anyway, long story short, it smelled like feet and body funk. It was gross. I don't think I'll ever go back. And I'm terrified of bed bugs at the moment, so of course I thought the joint was crawling with them. I shook myself out on the street when I left just to be safe.

Okay, bye bye.

Ke$ha Throws A Desert Party In 'Take It Off' Video

Pop star's new music video finds her and her pals taking over an abandoned motel and living it up.By Jocelyn Vena

Glitter: Check. Dance-ready pals: Check. White fur jacket: Check. Desert setting: Check. Ke$ha has all the ingredients for a huge bash in place — and not only is she throwing a party, she's using that setting as the backdrop for the new clip for her single "Take It Off."

Arriving on the scene on her motorcycle and meeting up with her crew, Ke$ha — dressed in short shorts, a tank top and one bedazzled choker — manages to embrace her inner party animal and throw a neon-colored party at an abandoned motel in the middle of nowhere.
While the concept of "a lot of pretty people dancing at dusk" is pretty simple, the neon colors manage to amp up the video, as does the colored sand that's thrown around in the air and mixed with glitter. Ke$ha, who very liberally applies both the glitter and the sand to her body in the video, manages to be both sexy and fun while rolling around in the desert.
The video gets interesting towards the end, when Ke$ha magically has a zipper down the front of her body and pulls it down, allowing her to apparently strip herself down to the glitter and sand she was partying in.
"It's my favorite video, I think, ever, that I've done because I get to get really dirty in glitter [and] sand, and we all get naked because we're just, like, taking it all off," she told MTV News last month.
"It's also about taking off your inhibitions and being raw and real," Ke$ha continued. "And then we start tearing each other apart into pieces, and we're all made out of glittery magic dust ... stardust."

'It's gonna be hard taking the Biebs down,' the 'Tik Tok' singer tells MTV News about her Best New Artist nom.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Christina Garibaldi

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.By James Montgomery

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.
To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.
According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.
Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).
The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.
It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.
Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Britney Spears Tweets A Picture From 'Glee' Set

'Can't wait for you guys to see the episode!' Spears writes on Twitter.By Mawuse Ziegbe

For fans who may have doubted whether the Britney Spears "Glee" episode is happening, the pop sensation has just provided photographic proof.
The star gave fans a glimpse of her inner-"Gleek" on Wednesday (August 18) by posting a TwitPic of herself next to her assistant Brett Miller, a Spears doppelgänger, both sporting similar specs and wavy blond locks.
After devoting episodes to the dance-floor-filling repertoires of Madonna and Lady Gaga, "Glee" is hard at work bringing Spears' string of hits to William McKinley High. So far, Spears, who makes a cameo in the upcoming episode, is enjoying the process.
"About to do my first shot of the day for Glee tweeties! Here we goooo!" Spears tweeted. The "Circus" singer later added, "What's up GLEEKS? Having so much fun on set!! Can't wait for you guys to see the episode!"
The "Glee" cast is also pumped to turn out Spears' smash-hit catalog. "I get to do Britney Spears!" Heather Morris exclaimed to MTV News earlier this month. "I like 'Toxic' the best or the 'Slave' video. It was always her best performance. She's rocking! I don't care what I do."
Jenna Ushkowitz confirmed that Lea Michele would take on Spears' star-making debut hit, " ... Baby One More Time." Aside from Spears' TwitPic — in which she's presumably in costume — and "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy's recent comments that Spears will "kind of" play herself, details about the episode have remained under wraps.
"Some old Britney, some new Britney, some Brittany of our Brittany from the glee club. So it should be funny," Ushkowitz hinted about the song selection. "We're really excited. I love Britney Spears."
What role do you think Britney will play on "Glee"? Let us know in the comments below!

Mandy Moore's 'Tangled' Heroine Not 'Typical Disney Princess'

'She's very independent,' actress/singer tells MTV News of new Rapunzel.By Kara Warner

Rapunzel (voiced by Many Moore) in "Tangled"

While the fall-to-Thanksgiving film season is usually rife with Oscar bait, it's also prime time for releasing family films. One such movie is the highly anticipated "Tangled," Disney's updated and traditionally animated take on Rapunzel, starring the vocal talents of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi.

Kicking off our Fall Movie Preview, we bring you a delightful chat we had with the ever-gracious and lovely Moore, during which she discussed non-typical femmes fatales, singing in front of a 65-piece orchestra and Levi's powerful pipes.
MTV: How is Rapunzel different from the typical femme-fatale characters?
Mandy Moore: She's not the typical femme fatale or the typical Disney princess even, because: A) She doesn't know she's a princess. I think she sort of has this inkling that something isn't quite right in her life, [but] she's just really sort of motivated to find out what else is out there beyond this crazy tower she's lived in for 18 years. Having said that, she's very independent, she can take care of herself, and she's definitely come up with really entertaining ways to keep herself busy.
MTV: Is the Disney take on Rapunzel the same as the original fairy tale?
Moore: Pretty much. She has an overprotective mother who tells her she's not missing out on anything, and it's a big bad world out there and it's too scary and dangerous and she'll be eaten alive, literally, if she decides to venture out into the world.
MTV: What was your reaction to Disney changing the film's original title, in an effort to lure in more young boys?
Moore: I think I was initially a bit taken aback, only because people know the story of Rapunzel, so when you say you're working on "Rapunzel," it's sort of a no-brainer, you don't have to explain it to people. But as the title sort of sunk in, I understood the decision behind changing it. The movie is so great and so cute, and people are going to see the trailer and know what the story is about. I guess you sort of have to leave it up to the brains at the top. They know what they're doing.
MTV: What can you tell us about this particular story? Can you tease any romance?
Moore: She sort of comes face to face with this stranger who precariously ends up in her tower, and he's very handsome [and] he knows it. He's quite the ladies' man, if you will. Somehow, they get roped into going on this adventure together and start to see a different side of one another, and potentially a romance ensues. There's [also] a few musical moments.
MTV: What was that experience like, recording with legendary Disney composer Alan Menken?
Moore: That was fun. I'm definitely the quintessential girl who grew up watching "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin" and the like, so it was probably one of the coolest things I've done thus far, being in the studio with Alan Menken and a 65-piece orchestra. It was such a moment in time. I kept telling myself: "Just be in the moment. Remember this. You're going to want to think about this for years to come." It was really magical and sort of everything you'd want a Disney animated experience to be. As one of the players involved, I was like, "Oh my God!" ... To watch it all come to life, because so much of your job — you're looking at storyboards, you're having things explained to you, but there's nothing tangible to see or get, it has to form in your imagination, which is one of the slightly taxing parts, but also the most fun — to get to be a kid again and go into the depths of your imagination and play around. This, being there with the orchestra and hearing the score sort of come to life and what the feel of the movie was going to be at different parts was like, "Oh, OK, now I really get what we're doing." So that was definitely a moment for me. It was the first time I met Zach [Levi].
MTV: Does Zach actually sing in the film?
Moore: He does, and he's amazing! Oh my God, we had one rehearsal before we went into the studio, and I was so interested [in him], because they wanted to cast actors in the roles who could also sing, and I had no idea that he sang, and it turns out he's like a big musical-theater nut and had that in his background. He has a beautiful voice, but he has the perfect voice for something like this. He's such a sweet guy, and he's so funny in the movie, but I think his voice will astonish people, like, "Wow, where did that come from?"
From the saucy Jessica Alba in "Little Fockers" to James Franco's grueling journey in "127 Hours," the MTV Movies team is delving into the hottest flicks of fall 2010. Check back daily for exclusive clips, photos and interviews with the films' biggest stars.

Usher Opens Up About Marriage To Tameka Foster

'It just was never going to work out 100 percent,' the singer says. By Mawuse Ziegbe

Usher's personal life — or public speculation about what has happened behind closed doors — has often figured prominently in the singer's work. Fans ate up the 2004 Confessions LP, which dropped amid rumors that Usher had stepped out on ex-girlfriend Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. Similarly, the singer had endured whispers about his reportedly rocky marriage to stylist Tameka Foster before his latest album, Raymond v. Raymond, debuted at #1 this year.
On the heels of the release of Versus, an extension of Raymond, the R&B crooner opened up about why he wasn't able to make it work with Foster.
"We're two different people and we have two different goals," Usher told People. "It just was never going to work out 100 percent."
Just like he did with his monster album Confessions, the ATL singer turned the heartbreak into hits.
"My music is about where I am at the time," Usher explained. "In Raymond v. Raymond, I was going through a lot of things, and it came out in my music. My marriage fell apart and
I was suddenly a single father."
Continuing his tradition of mining his personal life for inspiration, Usher said that Versus is "about being a dating father."
Earlier this year, the buzz surrounding his relationship with Foster ramped up when Usher's track "Papers," a song about ending a marriage by signing off on divorce documents, hit airwaves. However, Usher told MTV News in March that while the track wasn't inspired by a real-life situation, it unfortunately became a self-fulfilling prophecy.
"When the song was recorded, I wasn't divorced," Usher said. "It was some reality in the contrast of trying to make it all work, having to balance a career and having a normal life. Coming in at six in the morning and arguing was a reality when you have those type of relationships. I felt that in a way, the story did touch on certain things at the time. I didn't know how realistic it would become. I didn't know I would become divorced. I did know it spoke on the contrast between trying to balance this world of being married and having this responsibility that's like a marriage at the same time. The song spoke to that place. Unfortunately, it did become a reality."

Her choice of subject, the Parsi community, is intrinsic to Mumbai and makes the exhibition interesting on merit alone. But more so because she deliberately avoided the traditional gallery, opting instead to hang her work where people hang out. read more

Kid Rock's Born Free Due November 16

New album will feature collaborations with T.I., Sheryl Crow and Zac Brown.By Gil Kaufman

Kid Rock

Photo: JulNeil Lupin/ Redferns

There's no way you're going to be able to confuse Kid Rock's upcoming album Born Free with twitch-pop bomb-thrower M.I.A.'s song of the same name.
First of all, Rock's eighth studio album, due November 16, was produced by legendary knobmeister Rick Rubin. Second, even though Rock, like M.I.A., will release a song called "Born Free" as his first single, the Detroit bad boy's tune focuses not on world affairs, but on the economic decline of his hometown, Detroit.
A press release announcing the album calls Born Free "transformational," going on to note that while Rock retains his "edge, wit, and swagger" on the record, he has left his rap-metal roots behind. "There isn't even a parental warning sticker," the release says.
Rock described how D-town inspired the Americana feel of some tracks.
"The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit," he said. "Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul."
Most of the album was recorded during a two-week session in Los Angeles with a band that included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Los Lobos guitarist/singer David Hidalgo and Chavez guitarist Matt Sweeney. The release also noted that Rock logged time in studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta to lay down collaborations with fellow hometown rock icon Bob Seger, former flame Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown and Trace Adkins. T.I. and Martina McBride will appear on a song called "Care."
The disc is the follow-up to 2007's slow-burn success Rock N Roll Jesus, which produced the Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired 2008 hit "All Summer Long."
Rock provided a preview of the album earlier this month when he performed six of its songs during a series of hometown shows. In addition to the Detroit-boosting anthem "Times Like These," he pulled the cover back on the Springsteen-like title track, the midtempo "Slow My Roll," the somber "Rock On," the 1970s-style rocker "Feels Good to Me" and the Rolling Stones-influenced "God Bless Saturday."

Ke$ha Promises No Jazz On Her New Album

'I wouldn't say 'mature,' because that sounds boring,' Ke$ha says about the sound of her next record.By James Montgomery

Ke$ha

Photo: MTV News

Ke$ha's Animal album was just released in January, but that doesn't mean she's not already thinking ahead to her next album, even if it's royally screwing up her sleep schedule.

"I'm always writing and kind of thinking of the next step. I'm still executing this record properly onstage, but the next record is definitely on my mind, and potentially in the works soon," she told MTV News on Monday at the Casio "Shock the World" party in New York. "I was just in Tokyo and I couldn't sleep. I woke up at four in the morning, and I had this idea — [for] the whole video and the track and the song and who I wanted to collaborate with — so I spent like seven hours making a really horrible beat on 'Garage Band' and singing and rapping into my computer."
Hmmm ... that doesn't sound very country to us. Still, on her new songs, Ke$ha is looking to push the envelope a tad, which means that she's trying to move away from her hard-partying ways. Sort of.
"I write all my own music, so [the album is] going to be honest," she said. "And I definitely am not just laying around Los Angeles getting drunk with my friends anymore, so it'll definitely be a little different subject matter, but it will still be fun and honest. I'm not done being crazy."
And while it's still really early in the process, Ke$ha's got plenty of ideas floating around for her new album ... and she's already got a pretty solid sense of how the album won't sound.
"I wouldn't say 'mature,' because that sounds boring, that sounds like a jazz record, and that's not going to happen," she laughed. "You'll hear about different things on it. I think there's a great pop song in anything."

Rihanna Dazzles At Sold-Out New York Show

Ke$ha gets Last Girl on Earth party started at Madison Square Garden, as Rih powers through her numerous hits.By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna performs at Madison Square Garden on Thursday

Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ WireImage

NEW YORK -- Before Rihanna came onboard for the Last Girl on Earth tour at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, Ke$ha, completely covered in glitter, got her personal party started with her club banger "Blah Blah Blah."

"I cannot believe I am playing a show at the f---ing Garden. Holy sh-- balls," she screamed to the crowd midway through the song. "Are you guys having a dance party?" she later asked the excited crowd.
Ke$ha's set was much like she is: sparkly, glittery, a little messy, but, overall, a good time. She played all her hits, including "Take It Off," "Your Love Is My Drug" and the song that got all of MSG dancing, "Tik Tok."
While the fans were tickled with delight for Ke$ha's set, they really went nuts when Rihanna emerged onstage in a billowing black dress, with glowing lights inlaid into it. The star was ready to share with the audience her "dreams and nightmares," as a projected video explained. The searing guitar of "Russian Roulette" welcomed the red-headed singer to the room before she belted out the ballad and kicked the show off. After a quick change into a blush-colored, shimmering bodysuit, she went right into her crowd-pleaser "Hard," during which she very proudly rode her own baby-pink military tank.
During "Disturbia," Rihanna embraced her inner Goth, thanks to dancers dressed as crow-like figures on stilts. After a short intermission, Rihanna declared her "Rockstar" status and played a little air guitar in a latex bodysuit and thigh-high boots. "Rude Boy" brought out the sassy and sexy Rihanna fans have come to love.
"Is New York City in the house?" she asked before she sang a medley of "Love the Way You Lie" and "Airplanes," and then transitioned into "Hate That I Love You." "I can't hear you, New York! Anybody out there ever been in love?" she asked. For "Rehab," she lounged sexily on a chaise.
Things got spicy when Rihanna, flanked by two dancers doing saucy acrobatics, sang her Spanish-tinged "Te Amo." Then, dressed in an all-white "bandage" bodysuit, she kicked it old-school with her jam "Don't Stop the Music," throwing a dance party inside of a large cube onstage.
After displaying her guitar skills earlier in the night, Rihanna played some drums before performing a rock-influenced version of "SOS." She then addressed the crowd: "Thanks, all of you who bought a ticket tonight to come see me. I'm at Madison Square Garden and thanks to you guys, we sold out Madison Square Garden -- thank you so much." Then she sang "Take a Bow" before, well, taking a bow.
She kicked off an encore with "Wait Your Turn," in sparkly, knee-high boots, a matching newsboy cap, bra and spandex shorts. Rihanna played her second medley of the evening, combining party jams like "Live Your Life" and "Run This Town." But she ended the night on her biggest hit, "Umbrella," and in a dizzying sea of confetti, with fans singing along, she told the crowd, "Thank you so much."
The show not only displayed her vocal abilities, but also her unabashed performance style; her world is part "Mad Max," part "Twilight" and part OK Computer -- and all Rihanna.

U2, AC/DC, Beyonce Top Forbes 2010 Music Earners List

Lady Gaga debuts on the list at #7, after earning more than Madonna in the past year.By Gil Kaufman

U2's Bono

It just stands to reason that if you put on the biggest rock tour in history, you're going to make some serious coin. That might explain why more than three decades into their career, U2 easily took the top spot on Forbes magazine's list of the world's top-earning musicians, which also included newcomer Lady Gaga, as well as some of the usual suspects like Madonna, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen.
Like most of the artists on the list, the veteran Irish rockers did it with touring cash, in their case the coin from their gigantic 360 Tour, which netted them $130 million over the past 12 months by selling more than 1.3 million tickets for an average price of $94 apiece in North America. The tour grossed $311 million, and each stop had gross ticket receipts of $10 million, but the band's bottom line was also boosted by healthy merchandise sales, as well as strong radio play for their deep back catalog, which continues to sell well. The outing was temporarily derailed this year due to Bono's back injury, but U2 plan to return to North American shores next summer for a victory lap.
The Forbes tally, which counted earnings between June 2009 and June 2010, had another veteran band at #2: power rockers AC/DC, who stormed back last year with a tour that grossed $2.3 million a night and helped them earn $114 million on worldwide grosses of $226 million.
Making a stand for the ladies, Beyoncé netted $87 million to become the highest-earning female on the list at #3. A healthy dose of her take was courtesy of major endorsement deals with Nintendo and L'Oréal, sales from her House of Dereon fashion line, and the $86 million in gross receipts from her 93-date world tour.
New Jersey rock icon Springsteen also made most of his money on the road, raking in $70 million by selling more than 2 million tickets on his world tour, which grossed $167 million. Heavy radio play and the sales of lots of catalog albums also helped him lock down the #4 slot on the list.
It was another solid year for Britney Spears, who earned the #5 position with the fifth-highest grossing tour of the year, which brought in gross receipts of $130 million. She also rang up big cash for endorsement deals with Elizabeth Arden and Candies, which added to her $64 million in earnings. Jay-Z gave wifey Beyoncé a run for her money, taking the #6 position with $63 million he brought in from his stake in the New Jersey Nets NBA team, 40/40 nightclub chain, the hit Broadway show "Fela!," Blueprint 3 sales and the album's tour, which grossed more than $1 million a night.
Gaga, 24, crashed the list at #7 thanks to strong CD and download sales, her smash worldwide Monster Ball tour and million-dollar endorsement deals with Virgin Mobile, Polaroid, Viva Glam and Monster Cable, which netted her $62 million. She beat out one of her musical and sartorial touchstones, Madonna, who hit the #8 spot with earnings of $58 million thanks to her Sticky and Sweet Tour, the fourth highest-grossing outing of 2009, which raked in $6 million a night for a $138 million gross. The pop legend also made cash from an all-Madonna episode of "Glee" and earned a lump of cash from her lucrative publishing royalties.
Country star Kenny Chesney landed at #9 with $50 million in earnings from a $71 million grossing tour and prominent sponsorships with Corona and MasterCard.
The final spot was a three-way tie between the Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay and Toby Keith, all of whom brought in $48 million. The unstoppable Peas did it with a worldwide tour that brought in $800,000 a night, as well as a raft of endorsement deals with Target, Honda, Bacardi and Apple computers. Coldplay's tour dates for 2008's Viva la Vida grossed more than $105 million as well as millions in merchandise sales. Keith made $30 million in gross concert receipts and earned the rest from a growing chain of restaurants, stakes in several publishing companies and millions a year from publishing royalties.

Beyonce Says She's 'A Feminist, In A Way'

Singer also talks about retiring alter ego Sasha Fierce and starting a family, in You magazine.By James Dinh

Beyoncé

Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images

Whether it's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" or the Destiny's Child classic "Independent Women," most of Beyoncé's catalog consists of strong female-empowerment anthems. So it's no surprise that the singer considers herself to be a feminist.
In an interview with the U.K.'s You magazine, the pop star opens up about the importance of female companionship, not needing to hide behind Sasha Fierce and her much-talked-about baby plans.
"I think I am a feminist, in a way. It's not something I consciously decided I was going to be; perhaps it's because I grew up in a singing group with other women, and that was so helpful to me," she told the magazine. "It kept me out of so much trouble and out of bad relationships. My friendships with my girls are just so much a part of me that there are things I am never going to do that would upset that bond. I never want to betray that friendship, because I love being a woman and I love being a friend to other women."
Most recently, Beyoncé has certainly made her share of female friends in the industry. In the past year, the singer has collaborated with Lady Gaga ("Video Phone" and "Telephone") and Alicia Keys ("Put It in a Love Song").
While the singer might always have female besties, there's one thing she's cut out of the picture: alter ego Sasha Fierce. Earlier this year, the pop star revealed that she "killed" Sasha, and now she said the alter-ego absence is due to her newfound self-awareness.
"I don't need Sasha so much anymore, because these days, I know who I am. It takes time to figure out who you are, and I am still discovering different things about myself. As I am exposed to different experiences, I think, 'Oh, I like this. I didn't know I liked this,' " she explained. "That's the journey of life that is so exciting. More and more, I know who I am, I know what I like, I know what I want, and that makes me feel so free."
In fact, B already has her eye on some personal life goals. "My ambition is to continue to learn about the world and to eventually have a family," she said. And while Beyoncé remained coy about when she and husband Jay-Z will expand the Carter family, she hinted that there's really "no dates, no times" to motherhood. "It will happen when I am ready."

Folks had nothing but love for Chris Brown, who fell apart during his tribute to Michael Jackson at the 10th annual BET Awards on Sunday night (June 27).

At the afterparty, hosted by the tag team of Diddy and "Hustle & Flow" actress Taraji P. Henson, everyone from a show producer to the cast of the soon-to-be-revived BET series "The Game," as well as some of the night's winners and presenters, had something to say about Brown's emotional performance of "Man in the Mirror," during which the singer fell to his knees crying, genuinely unable, it seemed, to sing the song.
"You know who stole my heart tonight?" Henson asked.
"Chris Brown!" answered Diddy, host Queen Latifah, BET personality Tigger and a group of others in near-unison.
"He was so vulnerable," Henson continued. "I love you, Chris!"
During the tribute, Brown channeled Michael as he danced to "Remember the Time," "Smooth Criminal" and "Billie Jean."
The winner in the Best Male R&B Artist category, Trey Songz, said, "Chris killed that. He left his heart on the stage. He gave genuine emotion. I was proud of him and I was happy for him for having that moment." Songz didn't mention Brown choking on the lyrics during the song: "He did that justice. Everybody's been waiting for that."
Brown may have been waiting for his turn to do a tribute to his idol Michael Jackson, but he also was happy to have an opportunity to speak to his fans later in the show.
"I let y'all down before, but I won't do it again," he said as he accepted the award for the AOL Fandemonium prize, which was presented by siblings Brandy and Ray J. "I promise." Fans voted online, giving Brown the win over Nicki Minaj, Trey Songz and Justin Bieber.

Lady Gaga's Next Album Will Be 'Shocking,' Producer RedOne Says

'That's part of my job and her job — to keep her evolving,' he tells Billboard.By Kara Warner

Hot on the heels of Lady Gaga's confident pronouncement that her upcoming album is the "absolute greatest work I've ever done," "utter liberation" and an "anthem for my generation for the next decade" comes echoing praise from a reliable — if slightly biased — source: her producer RedOne.
"It's going to be shocking, shocking, shocking!" the Moroccan/Swedish master mixer behind "Just Dance," "LoveGame," "Poker Face," "Bad Romance" and "Alejandro" told Billboard of Gaga's new music. "You never want to go too far from your brand — people love you for a reason. But we still want to give them something with a kick, something that makes them say, 'Oh my God! We didn't expect this!' "
RedOne (real name: Nadir Khayat) said a big part of his job and future collaborations with Gaga are about evolution. "When you heard 'Bad Romance' after 'Poker Face,' it was like the best thing you've ever heard," he said. "We want that type of reaction. I think that's part of my job and her job — to keep her evolving."
The producer told Billboard that he worked on at least two tracks on Gaga's new album but also encouraged her to collaborate with others (he produced a total of nine tracks on The Fame and The Fame Monster), though he wouldn't divulge which hitmakers might be producing songs on the upcoming album.
"After 'Just Dance' and 'Poker Face,' 'LoveGame' and 'Boys Boys Boys,' I got a sound out of her, and that made it easier for other producers," he said. "Her sound is so defined that, no matter what, people can follow it. That sound belongs to her."

'The Expendables' Stars Want Justin Bieber For Sequel

Dolph Lundgren also suggests first-film holdout Jean-Claude Van Damme for the next film — as their victim.By Eric Ditzian

Where does "Expendables" star Sylvester Stallone turn now, after his cinematic smorgasbord of '80s action giants fire-bombed the competition and won the weekend box-office title? Can you hear the collective cry of $35 million worth of ticket-buyers? They're calling for a sequel!

Sly has plans to give the people what they want — he already has a second flick plotted out in his head — but for now, he's waiting on even greater box-office bucks and the chance to see which co-stars will return and which fresh faces he can entice to join the crew of gun-totting mercenaries. Stallone's fellow Expendables have some strong ideas about who they want to see in a sequel.
"Justin Bieber!" Terry Crews suggested to MTV News as the actors took over the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell. "I want Justin Bieber! I want Justin Bieber's ass!"
Ya hear that, Bieber? Perhaps before you hop in front of the 3-D cameras for your upcoming biopic, you can hang with some old dogs like Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Crews.
Lundgren, meanwhile, has his eye on a different guy to join the second installment — one who actually turned down a part in the first flick.
"I'd like to kill [Jean-Claude] Van Damme, please!" Lundgren said.
"He's hunting Van Damme down!" Stallone laughed.
Added Jason Statham: "I'll be the cut man for that!"
Two guys Stallone wants to reprise their roles are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. In fact, Sly revealed he's already been in contact with them about returning for a sequel. "The main thing is to find out who's available, who wants to be in it," he said. "I'm talking to Arnold and Bruce [about] different schedules and other actors. Then you have to bring in some new guys, some young blood.
"I haven't had an opening like this," Stallone added. "To me, it's miraculous. And what sunk in finally is, in this day and age, it's all about concept, it's not about the actor. No one actor can open a movie anymore, so you need the help of your friends. This was a group effort. I had the biggest opening because they helped. That's the name of the game."

Rihanna is making hit songs, breaking records and taking names. The singer is currently tied with a few of her pop comrades for the most #1 songs on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart. She ties with Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Mariah Carey for the most #1's in the Nielsen survey. Rihanna now has six #1's on her résumé thanks to her chart-topping collaboration with Eminem, "Love the Way You Lie," according to Billboard.com.
Rihanna's other #1 songs on the pop chart include 2006's "SOS" (for one week); 2008's "Take a Bow" (for three weeks); 2008's "Disturbia" (three weeks); her late-2008 T.I. collabo "Live Your Life" (two weeks); and this year's "Rude Boy" (two weeks). "Love the Way You Lie" has been on top for one week so far.
Earlier this year Beyoncé and Lady Gaga tied Mariah Carey for six #1 pop songs with their collaboration, "Telephone." Carey had six songs hit #1 on the Hot 100 before the Pop Songs chart was created in 1993, and then six others since its creation. Meanwhile, Beyoncé collected hers from 2003 to 2010. Gaga was the fastest to tie the record, with all six released from 2009-2010.
Avril Lavigne, Pink, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake all come in a close second with five #1 pop songs in their careers.
Rihanna had fans talking last week when the video for "Love the Way You Lie" was released. The singer, who was assaulted by then-boyfriend Chris Brown in 2009, appears in the video that depicts a violent love affair between Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox.
How do you think Rihanna compares to the other women at the top of the pop chart? Sound off in the comments.
